This Week in History…

UPH totally admits to being a young ‘un.  Too young for you.*  But sometimes even those of the newfangled twitter generation have to look back and acknowledge what happened before.

We, for example, do it once a week like clockwork.

This week in history:

8/8/87: Lynne Cox becomes first to swim across Bering Strait from US to Russia.  (Sarah Palin could see her on the other side!)

8/7/56: The Red Sox fine Ted Williams five thousand bucks (about $39,600 today) for spitting at fans.

8/6/69: Willie Stargell (who hated the knuckler) hits the first homerun completely out of Dodger Stadium.

8/5/36: Jesse Owens wins the third of his four gold medals, in the 200 meters.  (The guy he beat was Jackie Robinson’s older brother.  Who knew?)

8/4/62: Happy birthday to Rogah.

8/3/49: Two competing leagues come together to form the NBA as we know it

8/2/1875: First rollerskating rink opens in London.  Little did they know what they created

*Not that young, perv.
