Fantasy Recap: Week 2

Just because mere mortals can’t watch America’s Next Top Model and kick ass at fantasy football at the same time doesn’t mean UPH can’t. In fact, The Sports Chick did just that this week (football on laptop, Tyra on the TV!)

We started off by switching Wes Welker, who went back and forth from questionable to probable to questionable to inactive over the forty eight hours before kickoff. We managed this about two minutes before our lineup locked, switching in Baltimore WR Mark Clayton. Not the best move ever–our gut told us to sit Cedric Benson instead of moving him into the flex spot, and…oops. Our gut was wrong.

Lance Moore, who took that flex spot, left the game with a hamstring injury (done with him–he gave us nothing last week even with Brees’ monster day.) We bounced back from our mess with Chris Johnson’s career day and good numbers from Drew Brees and Chris Cooley.

And, of course, we kicked our opponents butt, and though we didn’t beat everyone in the league this time, we think we’ll be on top of the standings again, because of point differentials this week and last week for this week’s winner.

Fantasy Question: Loyalty or Lucre?

OK, not exactly lucre. But at least bragging rights at work that came with last week’s total domination. If we kick butt two weeks in a row, we’re pretty sure that involves some gloating, even if one of our competitors is our principal.

(Funny story, that. The Sports Chick is a teacher when she isn’t blogging her way through the sports calander, and was approached by a couple other teachers to do some chill fantasy football with an autodraft. Then, our principal found out. Rather than, say, shutting us down, he denounced us for not being hardcore enough, signed up, and instituted a live draft. Which took place in the computer lab.

Yesterday, he was encouraging us to smack talk more. We kid you not.)

Anyhow, this week’s question is simple: do we go with our current TE, Chris Cooley, who despite not catching a touchdown all of last year, caught one last week? His team, the Redskins, is playing the Rams this week, and our sources (read: Yahoo! Fantasy) lists this as a 5 star matchup.

So, no brainer, right?

But…but…the Houston Texans’ have an injured player, and James Casey, who we ACTUALLY KIND OF KNOW IN REAL LIFE, might get the start. His firstest start EVER! And of course, we have him riding our bench. We know first hand how surprising he can be and what a playmaker he is. And needless to say, if we play him and he rocks, our leaguemates will bow down in awe.

So…weigh in!

Fantasy Recap: Week 1

We admit it: we’ve never done the fantasy football thing before, so this week was our first try at the intricacies of ranking draft choices because you’re going to be at work when the draft happens, as well as at smack talking 140 characters at a time, etc. But it turns out we did pretty well.

Our major coup, of course? Drew Brees, who we could have told you is probably the best QB in the NFL, even before what we’re watching right now, which we’ll cover in a moment. We picked Chris Johnson, the RB out of ECU who plays for the Titans, and Cedric Benson (who had a personally good game despite the Bengals’ 12-7 loss) was in our other RB spot.

But here’s what we figured out. You shouldn’t draft the kicker from one team and the defense for another team and then play both in the weekend they’re playing each other. It leads to some identity-crisis football watching. Seriously, the mood swings reminded us of PMS.

Our total: 130.65 LEAGUE VICTORY!!

The week’s opponent: 90.67

Not bad for our first week, eh?
